August 2019 texsom and southern italian wines with Laura De Pasquale MS
“It’s always a pleasure to speak on Italian wines at Texsom, and even more so to do so with Laura De Pasquale MS, one of the most likeable and most knowledgeable people I have ever met in wine, as well as one of the wine world’s keenest minds” was Ian D’Agata’s comment after finishing the presentation of Southern Italian wines, co-presented with De Pasquale at the Four Season’s in Dallas this past August. Over 200 wine professionals from all over the U.S.A, were in attendance for the showcase tasting event, who enjoyed the opportunity to taste and ask questions about the wines of estates including, for example, Argiolas and Pala (Sardinia), Cantina di Copertino (Puglia), and Elena Fucci (Basilicata). “The wines were all brilliantly chosen by Laura; they all showed great, with the real surprise star being the wine from the Cooperative from Copertino, totally inexpensive and totally delicious!”
Unfortunately, after two fun-filled and highly enjoyable editions of Texsom (2018 and 2019), Ian will not be back in 2020, due to other commitments next August. “August is always when I spend two weeks in Alsace visiting about forty to fifty wineries tasting through all the new releases and it’s honestly just too hard for me to get away another five days in that month to go all the way to Dallas. And besides, Texsom has many other fine wines and winmaking countries to feature and it can count on a slew of other truly brilliant speakers to choose from. I can’t thank James Tidwell and everyone at Texsom enouigh for generously inviting me these past two editions, it was an extremely fun and formative experience”.
